2027 Trainee Floatplane Pilot (C208 Caravan) – Horizontal Falls, Broome

✈️ Take the helm as a Trainee Floatplane Pilot over the Kimberley

Horizontal Falls is recruiting trainee pilots for our Cessna 208 Caravan floatplane operation based in Broome, Western Australia. Fly single-pilot scenic adventures over the Kimberley’s red cliffs, turquoise waters, mangroves and the iconic Horizontal Falls—while building turbine time and guest-service excellence in one of Australia’s most spectacular backdrops.

🧭 Role at a glance

  • Location: Broome, Western Australia
  • Aircraft: Cessna 208 Caravan (floatplane)
  • Operation: Single-pilot scenic tourism flights
  • Minimum total time: 1,000 hours
  • Licence: CASA Part 61 CPL + Class 1 Medical
  • Contract: Initial two-year fixed term

Successful candidates will receive a floatplane endorsement, complete initial training in the Whitsundays, and log 100 hours ICUS before commencing line operations in Broome.

🧰 What you’ll do

  • Operate Horizontal Falls’ Cessna 208 Caravans on scenic flights from Broome across the Kimberley, including the Horizontal Falls.
  • Act as Pilot in Command during single-pilot operations, ensuring the safety of passengers and aircraft at all times.
  • Adhere to company procedures, manuals and reasonable instructions, maintaining disciplined airmanship and situational awareness.
  • Assess situations independently and make sound in-flight decisions with a rigorous safety focus.
  • Deliver an exceptional guest experience through clear communication, professionalism and attention to detail.

🧰 What you’ll bring

  • Licensing: CASA Part 61 CPL, Class 1 Medical and a current aeroplane flight review.
  • Flight time: Minimum 1,000 hours total time. No previous floatplane time required.
  • Ratings & endorsements: Single-engine aeroplane class rating; Cessna 208 qualification; retractable undercarriage; gas turbine; and manual propeller pitch control design feature endorsements.
  • Highly desirable: 50 hours on the Cessna 208.
  • Compliance: Ability to obtain an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC); complete a pre-employment drug and alcohol test; and hold the right to work in Australia.
  • Attributes: Self-motivated with strong communication and interpersonal skills; commitment to safety and continuous improvement; sound independent decision-making; high personal presentation and attention to detail; able to work autonomously and within a team.
