✈️ Role Snapshot
As a Direct Entry Captain, you will command scheduled Part 121 operations on the Boeing 737NG, ensuring safe, efficient, and on-time performance while leading a professional flight deck. You’ll bring sound judgement, crisp procedural discipline, and a coaching mindset to every sector.
🧭 Minimum Requirements
- Total time: ≥ 5,000 hours (Essential)
- Command time: ≥ 2,000 hours PIC on aircraft >50T MTOW (Essential) OR ≥ 1,000 hours PIC on 737 or similar (Essential)
- Currency: Recent (within past 24 months) PIC experience on a large commercial airliner operating under Part 121 (e.g., Boeing 737 or Airbus equivalent) (Essential)
- License: Valid ATPL — open to ICAO licence holders (Essential)
- Medical: Class 1 (Essential)
- English: ICAO ELP Level 4 or higher (Essential)
🧰 Additional Requirements
- Education: Grade 12 or equivalent (Essential)
- Working pattern: Ability to work irregular hours, including weekends and public holidays (Essential)
- Training bond: Willing to sign an Upgrade Training Bond (Essential)
- Procedures knowledge: Strong knowledge of ATC airspace and procedures; good knowledge of South African CARS and CATS; familiarity with Doc 8168
- SOPs & manuals: Excellent knowledge of the Safair OM and Boeing SOPs — normal and non‑normal procedures
🌟 Training and Type Rating
No current B737 type rating? No problem. Successful candidates will receive comprehensive 737NG training and checking. High standards of airmanship, threat and error management, and procedural discipline are expected throughout training and line operations.
