Join a mission-driven team flying the AT-802 “Fire Boss” on seasonal aerial firefighting operations. If you thrive in low-level, high-precision environments and bring solid Part 137 experience, this role offers advanced training (no type rating required) and the opportunity to make a measurable impact each day.
✈️ What you’ll do
- Captain the AT-802 “Fire Boss” on seasonal wildfire missions, including scooping and delivering water/retardant with precision in dynamic, low-level environments.
- Execute FAA Part 137 operations to exacting safety standards, maintaining strict adherence to SOPs and risk management practices.
- Coordinate with Air Attack/IC, ground resources, and dispatch to ensure effective drops and mission success.
- Operate in mountainous terrain and varied weather, applying advanced energy management and terrain awareness.
- Maintain aircraft readiness, documentation, and performance planning while deployed to forward operating bases.
- Participate in recurrent and upgrade training; initial same-make/model hours are provided through the Dauntless Air training program.
🧭 Minimum qualifications
- Total Time: 1,500 hours
- Turbine Time: 100 hours
- Licenses & Ratings: FAA CPL, Instrument Rating (IR), and Float/Seaplane rating (ASES)
- Medical: First Class
- Recency: 100 hours in airplanes in the last 12 months; 10 hours in airplanes in the preceding 60 days
- Single-Engine Land: 200 hours in ASEL
- Single-Engine Sea: 100 hours in ASES (If you lack the 100 hours of ASES but hold the ASES rating and meet all other requirements, you may still apply.)
- Make/Model: 25 hours in the same make/model to be flown (If hired, these hours are provided via the Dauntless Air training program.)
- Low-Level Time: 200 hours in airplanes, including at least 100 hours of legitimate FAA Part 137 operations (e.g., crop dusting/aerial application; dispensing fire retardant, water on fires, or agricultural materials/chemicals)
- Mountain Time: 200 hours in mountainous terrain, or 100 hours after graduation from a recognized mountain flying school
🧰 Preferred background
- The majority of qualified hires have 4,000+ hours total time.
- Demonstrated proficiency in scooper/SEAT, aerial application, or comparable low-level specialized operations.
- Strong ADM, situational awareness, and communication in multi-agency environments.
