Second Officer – Boeing 787/777 Jet Fleet (Air New Zealand)
✈️ Join Air New Zealand’s Jet Fleet as a Second Officer
Air New Zealand is inviting expressions of interest from experienced external pilots to join our Boeing jet operations. Successful candidates will enter as Second Officers on our B787 Dreamliner or B777 fleet. This is a permanent, non-type-rated opportunity with full training provided.
🧭 What you’ll do
As a Second Officer on our B787/B777 long-haul operations, you will support the flight deck in delivering safe, efficient and customer-focused journeys. You’ll contribute to flight planning and monitoring, manage systems during cruise, apply oceanic and long-range procedures, and work within Air New Zealand’s SOPs to the highest professional standards.
🧰 What you’ll bring
- Total time: 1,500 hours
- Multi-engine: 100 hours
- Licences: CPL + IR + ME (NZCAA)
- Medical: Class 1
- Language: ICAO ELP Level 6
- Additional: NZCAA BTK/BGT; valid passport with required visas; ability to travel internationally
- Instrument time: 40 hours
- Night: 25 hours
- All applications: 100 hours ATO (exceptions may be made for applicants with military experience)
🌟 Qualifying experience (one of the following)
- At least 12 months multi-crew, multi-turbine engine Part 121 or Part 125 turboprop command experience on aircraft with MCTOW ≥ 7,765 kg (e.g., Beech 1900D) operated under IFR
- At least 12 months Part 121 or Part 125 jet First Officer experience
- Part 121 or Part 125 jet Captain experience
- At least 12 months multi-crew, multi-turbine fixed-wing command experience with the RNZAF or other air force on aircraft equivalent in weight category to Part 121/125 turboprops
🎓 Training and preferences
- NTR entry with full B787 or B777 type training provided
- NZCAA ATPL preferred but not required (we will train the right candidate)
