As a WestJet Encore First Officer, you’ll deliver safe, efficient, and guest-focused operations across our expansive network on the Bombardier Q400 NextGen (Dash 8). You’ll be a collaborative leader on the flight deck and a brand ambassador who brings WestJet’s values to life on every leg.
🧭 What you’ll do
- Operate as First Officer on the Q400, ensuring the highest standards of safety, compliance, and efficiency.
- Deliver a memorable guest experience through professional, service-oriented interactions from gate to gate.
- Demonstrate strong crew leadership and teamwork, upholding WestJet’s corporate values and SOPs.
- Apply disciplined checklist usage, threat and error management, and sound decision-making.
- Participate in initial and recurrent training, briefings, and safety programs.
🌟 Minimum qualifications
- Total time: 750 hours
- PIC time: 100 hours
- Type rating: Not required (training provided)
- Exams: Completion of either the IATRA or the SAMRA and SARON (valid)
- License holders: TCCA
- Medical: Class 1
- ICAO ELP: Level 4
🧰 Preferred experience
- 1000+ hours total time accumulated
- Experience in multi-engine and multi-crew operations
- Flight instructors: minimum Class 3 instructor rating and 1200+ hours total time
🧰 Training and progression
- Airline-provided Q400 type training for successful candidates.
- PICUS program: First Officers holding a CPL may complete up to 200 hours on Encore aircraft for a maximum credit of 100 hours PICUS toward ATPL requirements, per CAR 421.11.
🧰 Additional requirements
- Current valid passport.
- All required visas or travel documents allowing unrestricted travel.
- RAIC obtained prior to completion of Initial Ground School.
- Clear police background and criminal record check.
- Offers of employment are conditional on passing a pre-employment alcohol and drug screening test.
