As a WestJet Encore First Officer, you’ll help deliver safe, efficient, and memorable journeys across our network on our modern De Havilland Dash 8‑400 (Q400) fleet—while growing your skills in a collaborative, safety-first culture.
✈️ What you’ll do
- Operate the Dash 8‑400 safely and efficiently in accordance with company SOPs, regulations, and best practices.
- Deliver warm, professional guest service, representing WestJet Encore’s values on every flight.
- Collaborate closely with your Captain and cabin crew using strong CRM to ensure smooth, on-time operations.
- Support flight planning, performance calculations, weather and NOTAM reviews, and fuel management.
- Demonstrate leadership on the flight deck and during irregular operations, maintaining calm, concise communication.
- Participate in recurrent training and continuous improvement to uphold a Just Culture and safety-first environment.
🧭 Minimum qualifications
- Total Time: 750 hours
- PIC Time: 100 hours
- Exams: Valid IATRA OR valid SAMRA & SARON
- Medical: Class 1
- Language: ICAO ELP Level 4
- Accepted Licences: TCCA
- Type Rating: Not required (training provided)
🌟 Preferred experience
- 1000+ hours total time.
- Experience in multi-engine and multi-crew operations.
- Flight instructors with minimum Class 3 rating and 1200+ hours total time are strongly considered.
🧰 Additional requirements
- Current valid passport and all documents/visas permitting unrestricted travel.
- RAIC obtained prior to completion of Initial Ground School.
- Clear police background and criminal record check.
- Offers of employment are conditional on passing a pre-employment alcohol and drug screening test.
🎓 Training & progression
- Comprehensive ground school, simulator, and line training on the Dash 8‑400.
- PICUS program: First Officers holding a CPL may carry out up to 200 hours in Encore aircraft for a maximum credit of 100 hours PICUS toward ATPL requirements, as detailed in CAR 421.11.
- Ongoing development in SOPs, CRM, and performance monitoring within a supportive team culture.
