Jet Second Officer (A320/A321) – Air New Zealand
✈️ Join Air New Zealand’s Jet Fleet as a Second Officer
Air New Zealand is inviting expressions of interest from experienced external pilots to join our jet operations. Successful candidates will commence as Second Officers on our Airbus A320/A321 fleet, training in a world-class safety culture and multi-crew environment.
🧭 About the role
As a Second Officer in our jet fleet, you will support safe, efficient flight operations across domestic and short-haul international routes, contributing to planning, systems management, and high-standard IFR operations under the guidance of our training and line captains. This is an excellent entry point into Air New Zealand’s jet pathway.
🧰 Minimum requirements
- Total time: 1,500 hours
- Multi‑engine: 100 hours
- Instrument time: 40 hours
- Night: 25 hours
- Additional: 100 hours ATO (exceptions may be made for applicants with military experience)
- Multi‑crew turbine experience: Meet one of the following pathways:
- At least 12 months multi‑crew, multi‑turbine Part 121 or Part 125 turboprop command experience on aircraft with MCTOW ≥ 7,765 kg (e.g., Beech 1900D) operated under IFR; or
- At least 12 months Part 121 or Part 125 jet First Officer experience; or
- Part 121 or Part 125 jet Captain experience; or
- At least 12 months multi‑crew, multi‑turbine fixed‑wing command experience with the RNZAF or another air force on aircraft equivalent in weight category to Part 121/125 turboprops.
🌟 Qualifications and licensing
- Licences: CPL with IR and ME (New Zealand)
- ATPL: NZCAA ATPL preferred but not required (we will train the right candidate)
- Theory: NZCAA BTK/BGT
- Medical: Class 1
- English: ICAO Level 6
- Open to licence holders: NZCAA only

An ability to travel overseas is required, including a valid passport and any visas as required. Visa sponsorship is not provided for this position; you must hold the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
