Occidental Petroleum is seeking an experienced Captain to join our Houston-based Corporate Aviation team. You’ll alternate between serving as PIC and SIC, ensuring safe, compliant, efficient, and customer-focused operations for our passengers while championing a world-class safety culture.
✈️ The opportunity
As a Captain on our Embraer 170 (EMB-170), you’ll lead end-to-end flight execution—from meticulous planning through post-flight debrief—while partnering seamlessly with your co-captain and flight team. When acting as PF, you’ll work with the co-captain as PM; when serving as PIC, you retain ultimate operational authority. This role blends technical excellence, safety leadership, and elevated passenger service.
🧭 What you’ll do
- Promote Occidental’s safety-first culture while delivering an exceptional passenger experience.
- Operate in full compliance with applicable Federal Aviation Regulations (14 CFR), the AFM, Certificate of Airworthiness, company policies, SOPs, and accepted aviation practices.
- Plan assigned flights: review schedules, itineraries, passenger/cargo needs, and any special requirements.
- Analyze current and forecast weather for departure, alternates, route, destination, and arrival alternate; determine fuel requirements and file flight plans.
- Coordinate catering/commissary with the Flight Technician when applicable; verify aircraft status with Maintenance.
- Calculate weight and balance for departure and landing within AFM limits.
- Ensure required equipment, documents, publications, and databases are onboard and current; arrange required security.
- Conduct thorough interior and exterior preflight inspections; lead preflight and post-flight crew briefings.
- Maintain current, in-depth knowledge of aircraft systems/performance, regulations, operating and navigation procedures, NOTAMs, and company policies.
- Keep pilot certificates, SIC qualifications, and the FAA First Class Medical current; complete all recurrent training as required.
- Coordinate aircraft servicing at intermediate stops with the Flight Technician or Cabin Safety Attendant.
- Protect sensitive company information; represent Occidental with a professional appearance and positive attitude.
- Contribute to department initiatives and projects; set annual S.M.A.R.T. and development goals through Occidental’s Performance Management System.
- Actively participate in the Flights department’s SMS; remain fully compliant with regulatory and OXY training programs.
- Complete work with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively in an inclusive team environment.
🧰 Minimum flight experience
- Total time: 3,000 hours
- Pilot in Command (PIC): 500 hours
- Multiengine PIC: 500 hours
🌟 What you’ll bring
- At least five years of aviation flight-operations experience.
- Valid ATP (Unrestricted or Restricted) with an EMB-170 type rating.
- Current FAA First Class Medical Certificate (provided prior to onboarding).
- English language proficiency.
- Restricted FCC Radiotelephone Operator Permit.
- Valid automobile driver’s license and an unrestricted passport.
- Residence in, or willingness to relocate to, Houston, Texas.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred (or equivalent experience).
🧭 Preferred experience
- Operational experience under FAA 14 CFR Part 125.
- At least three years of corporate aviation experience.
🧾 Certifications & documents
- ATP (Unrestricted or Restricted) with EMB-170 type rating.
- Current FAA First Class Medical.
- Restricted FCC Radiotelephone Operator Permit.
- Valid driver’s license and unrestricted passport.
