Reports to: Chief Pilot

Lead from the left seat. As a Captain with Gridiron Air, you’ll have full command of the aircraft and crew when on duty, partnering with the Director of Operations on pre-flight planning, delay decisions, and flight release. You’ll set the tone for safety, professionalism, and hospitality while delivering efficient, compliant operations every flight.

✈️ Role overview

  • Exercise full authority and responsibility for all crewmembers and the safe, efficient conduct of each flight from report time through release from duty.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Operations on flight planning, delays, and flight release decisions; ensure timely, well-informed operational calls.
  • Operate strictly per company-approved/accepted manuals, OpSpecs, and applicable 14 CFRs, FAA Orders, Airworthiness Directives, Advisory Circulars, Handbook Bulletins, and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Submit reports on irregularities and incidents; immediately notify the Chief Pilot of any issue that may affect safety, compliance, or fiscal responsibility.
  • Uphold company culture and core values; ensure pilot appearance, attendance, and conduct meet policy standards.
  • Maintain currency and compliance: medicals, takeoffs/landings, home-study courses, airport/route qualifications, flight-time limitations, equipment and manuals.
  • Lead, brief, and direct the crew to meet operational requirements; take decisive action to resolve safety or compliance concerns.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by the Chief Pilot.

🧰 Minimum qualifications

  • Certificates: FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) — Unrestricted or Restricted; First Class Medical; FCC Radiotelephone Operator Permit.
  • Eligibility: Legal authorization to live and work in the United States; eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance; no FAA accident history or regulatory violations; ability to pass a DOT pre-employment drug test.
  • Experience: EFIS/FMS/Glass flight deck proficiency; experience in Part 121, Part 91, or Part 135 operations.
  • Competencies: Fluent in English (read, write, speak, comprehend); strong communication, sharp judgment, attention to detail, and a hospitality mindset.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree.

🧭 Flight time requirements

  • Total time: 5,000 hours fixed-wing
  • Pilot-in-Command: 2,000 hours PIC in aircraft over 154,000 lbs
  • Turbojet time: 1,000 hours
  • 121/91/135 operations: 1,000 hours cumulative

Preferred: Supplemental Part 121 experience and time on Boeing aircraft (e.g., B777).
