Assistant Chief Pilot, Flight Operations — Thunder Bay (YQT)

🧭 Role snapshot

Partner with the Chief Pilot(s) to set standards, mentor pilots, and ensure regulatory, SMS, and customer service excellence. You’ll balance leadership duties with operational flying and line checks when needed.

🧰 What you’ll do

• Foster a healthy, positive workplace and deliver on Wasaya’s Customer Care Commitments for internal and external customers.
• Execute flight-operations tasks assigned by the Chief Pilot or Director of Flight Operations.
• Develop, publish, and uphold SOPs, policies, directives, and notices to flight crews; ensure full compliance with CARs and all applicable regulatory obligations.
• Co-develop and implement approved flight-crew training programs; support checking, standards, and recurrent training.
• Assess the operational suitability and requirements of all company-served aerodromes and routes.
• Lead pilot supervision including administrative, managerial, and scheduling oversight; monitor performance and compliance.
• Initiate and distribute SMS reports related to flight crews; track follow-up and corrective actions.
• Participate in flight-safety accident and incident investigations; recommend mitigations.
• Take part in interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and termination processes for flight crew.
• Liaise effectively with other company departments and external agencies.
• Apply disciplinary actions in accordance with Company Policy and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• Conduct line checks and perform flight duties as required.
• Carry out other flight-operations duties as assigned.

🌟 What you bring

• Aviation college degree or diploma.
• Significant two-crew, multi-engine turbine experience, including Northern Ontario operations.
• Proficiency with FMS and/or glass cockpit avionics.
• Previous aviation supervisory and/or training experience.
• Valid ATPL with IFR and Category 1 Medical; current PPC on a Wasaya-operated aircraft or the ability to obtain one.
• Strong working knowledge of Canadian Aviation Regulations and Standards and a practical understanding of SMS.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to plan and organize the activities of others and maintain accurate, confidential records.
• Tech savvy with effective computer skills (MS Office preferred), internet, and email.
• Collaborative and self-directed; consistently sensitive, tactful, diplomatic, and professional.
