Join the Royal Flying Doctor Service South Australia & Northern Territory and fly purposeful missions that make a real difference. As a Line Pilot based in Alice Springs, you’ll deliver aeromedical evacuations, inter-hospital patient transfers, and healthcare personnel charters across some of Australia’s most remote and awe-inspiring regions.
🧭 What you’ll do
- Conduct safe, efficient flight operations for aeromedical evacuations and routine patient transfers across the Northern Territory and South Australia.
- Deliver charter flights for primary health care teams and essential medical equipment to regional, rural, and remote communities.
- Operate Pilatus PC-12 aircraft under single-pilot IFR, often in challenging outback conditions.
- Work as an integral member of a multidisciplinary aeromedical crew, collaborating closely with health professionals to provide emergency and primary care.
- Report to the Deputy Head of Flight Operations and uphold RFDS standards, procedures, and values.
🧰 What you’ll bring
- CASA CPL (A) with a current IPC (three renewals).
- Minimum 2,000 hours total time, including 1,500 hours Pilot in Command.
- At least 100 hours night flying experience.
- Recent single-pilot IFR experience within the past two years.
- Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
- Reliability, responsiveness, self-motivation, strong organisation, and sound decision-making under pressure.
- Alignment with RFDS values of care, integrity, collaboration, and innovation.
💡 Highly regarded
- Experience operating in remote and outback environments.
- Time on type: PC-12 and/or PC-24.
- Familiarity with rural and remote Australia, emergency retrieval practices, and related training.
- Turbine-engine aircraft experience.
Pre-employment: The recruitment process may include mandatory vaccination requirements, national police and Working with Children clearances, a medical assessment, and a functional capacity evaluation.
📜 Minimum flight experience
- Total time: 2,000+ hours
- Pilot in Command (PIC): 1,500+ hours
- Night: 100+ hours
- IFR: Recent single-pilot IFR experience within the past 24 months
- Licence: CASA CPL (A) with current IPC (three renewals)
