Clay Lacy Aviation is seeking a seasoned aviation leader to serve as Lead Captain on our Gulfstream G550 based at KSNA in Santa Ana, CA. In addition to flying as PIC or SIC, you will champion regulatory compliance, coordinate training, oversee crew scheduling, and handle key administrative tasks for a high-standard Part 91 private flight department.

  • Role: Lead Captain (serving as PIC or SIC as assigned)

✈️ The Mission

Lead safe, reliable, and client-focused G550 operations while guiding the crew to maintain impeccable standards. You will balance time on the flight deck with leadership responsibilities that keep training, currency, schedules, and documentation tightly aligned with company policy and FAA requirements.

🧭 What You’ll Do

  • Operate the Gulfstream G550 as PIC or SIC as designated.
  • Ensure compliance with flight and maintenance schedules and directives governing aircraft operations.
  • Oversee crew compliance with flight and duty time limitations as outlined in the GOM under Part 135, or reasonably adhere to those standards under Part 91.
  • Lead thorough pre-flight and post-flight duties and inspections in accordance with the AFM.
  • Monitor and coach crewmember performance; support strong CRM and decision-making.
  • Complete and approve crew expense reports; review invoices and monthly billing summaries for accuracy.
  • Coordinate crew schedules, days off, and training/currency events to maintain availability and compliance.
  • Conduct annual aircraft black book audits and maintain pristine aircraft records.
  • Partner with maintenance, vendors, and dispatch to ensure safe, efficient, and on-time operations.
  • Deliver a polished, client-first experience consistent with private aviation expectations.

🧰 What You’ll Bring

  • Certificates: FAA ATP certificate required (R-ATP acceptable).
  • Medical: Current First Class Medical.
  • Type Rating: G550 type rating required.
  • Currency & Compliance: Meets applicable FAA Part 91 and/or Part 135 requirements for the assigned aircraft and remains current.
  • Travel Credentials: Unexpired, valid passport; unexpired, valid driver’s license.
  • Residence: Lives within a two-hour drivable commute to KSNA.
  • Screening: Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background checks.
  • Leadership & Admin: Proven ability to manage schedules, training events, expenses, and documentation with accuracy and discretion.
  • Soft Skills: Exemplary CRM, communication, and customer service; calm, decisive judgment under pressure.

Candidates are required to be type rated on the G550 and maintain all qualifications throughout employment.
