Lead wilderness operations as a seasonal Floatplane Captain with Katmai Air
Katmai Air, a respected general aviation operator based in Anchorage, Alaska, is seeking experienced seaplane professionals to support high-tempo seasonal operations across Alaska. If you thrive in remote, rugged environments and bring deep floatplane and Alaska experience, this role puts you at the controls where skill, judgment, and customer service matter most.
✈️ The opportunity
As a Floatplane Captain, you will operate single‑engine seaplanes to and from remote Alaskan locations, transporting guests, crews, and supplies safely and efficiently. You’ll make sound, independent decisions in dynamic weather, manage on‑water operations, and uphold Katmai Air’s safety and service standards on every leg.
🧭 What you’ll do
- Captain various seaplane types in demanding floatplane operations across Alaska under Part 135.
- Plan and execute flights: weather evaluation, performance and weight/balance, fuel planning, and risk management.
- Perform water operations expertly: docking, beaching, mooring, ramping, fueling, tie‑downs, and overnight care.
- Maintain operational compliance: checklists, aircraft/operational logs, and company SOPs.
- Communicate clearly with dispatch, maintenance, and guests; deliver a high‑touch customer experience.
- Adapt to changing duty stations and schedules; support remote base operations as needed.
🧰 What you’ll bring
- Minimum requirements
- 1500+ hours total flight time.
- 300+ hours single‑engine seaplane (SES) time.
- Valid CPL with Float Rating and Instrument Rating; strong instrument proficiency.
- Current medical meeting commercial requirements (FAA Class 1 preferred).
- Exceptional airmanship, judgment, and attention to detail; clear written and verbal communication.
- Customer‑service mindset and the ability to take instruction and offer constructive, goal‑oriented improvements.
- Flexibility with hours and duty station; prepared for harsh Alaskan environments.
- Preferred qualifications
- ATP certificate.
- 1000+ hours floatplane time in Alaska.
- 3+ years in FAA Part 135 operations.
- Prior flight instruction or Company Instructor/Check Pilot authority.
- Extensive Alaska bush flying experience.
