Fixed‑Wing Check Airman & Flight Instructor

✈️ About the role

In this standards-critical position, you will evaluate and train Helicopter and/or Fixed-Wing pilots in the classroom, aircraft, and advanced simulators. You’ll ensure compliance with the General Operations Manual (GOM), maintain meticulous pilot records per FARs, and drive a safety-first culture through structured training and checking.

🧭 What you’ll do

• Conduct initial and recurrent ground and flight training, including transition, differences, and ROC (restricted operations checks).
• Evaluate operational compliance across safety, flight, and maintenance procedures as described in the GOM.
• Operate advanced aviation training devices and full-motion simulators for scenario-based training and evaluation.
• Develop and implement flight and ground training schedules; ensure standardized training and checking procedures are followed.
• Support CP/ACP with pilot recordkeeping in accordance with applicable FARs and company policies; submit required reports on time.
• Assist in building aircraft checklists and Air Methods’ pilot training programs.
• Deliver Basic Indoctrination, instrument (ground/flight), NVG (ground/flight), and other program elements as assigned.
• Immediately correct and report out-of-compliance issues; when not immediately correctable, coordinate remedial action with ACP and Regional Aviation or Maintenance leadership.
• Other duties as assigned.

🧰 What you’ll bring

• High school diploma or GED; three to five years’ related experience/training (or equivalent combination). Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Previous Instructor/Check Airman experience preferred; recommendation from a current Air Methods Flight Instructor or Check Airman is a plus.
• Commercial with Instrument rating required; ATP in aircraft category preferred.
• CFI/CFII (Rotor wing) or willingness to obtain within one year.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; collaborative approach across all levels.
• Proven ability to implement initial and recurrent training programs.
• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

🌐 Minimum flight experience (IFR Program)

• 2,500 total flight hours (minimum)
• 2,000 hours in category
• 1,000 hours PIC in category
• 500 hours cross-country (at least 50 hours at night)
• 500 hours turbine time
• 100 hours night flight time
• 100 hours actual instrument time in category

Note: Applicants must meet all IFR Program hour minimums listed above.

📜 Certificates & ratings

• Required: Commercial Pilot License (CPL) with Instrument rating
• Preferred: ATP in aircraft category
• Required/Timeline: CFI/CFII (Rotor wing) or obtained within 12 months of hire
