Fixed‑Wing Air Medical Pilot in Command (PIC) – Cortez Air Base

✈️ The mission

As PIC, you are accountable for the safe, effective operation of fixed‑wing aircraft in alignment with Federal Aviation Regulations, manufacturer guidance, and Intermountain policies. You will plan and execute patient transport flights, make time‑critical operational decisions, and serve as a trusted partner to medical teams, communication specialists, patients, and their families.

🧭 What you’ll do

• Lead all phases of flight: preflight planning, performance and weather analysis, in‑flight decision‑making, and post‑flight duties.
• Maintain aircraft readiness, cleanliness, and proper function; coordinate maintenance as needed.
• Communicate clearly and promptly with medical crews, communication specialists, and patient family members.
• Apply independent critical thinking to balance safety, clinical urgency, and operational constraints.
• Evaluate each transport against service criteria and safety guidelines; maintain detailed regulatory knowledge.
• Assist medical crew: move bags, direct/participate in patient loading/unloading, replenish aircraft oxygen and engine oil, and complete other operational tasks.

🧰 Leadership tracks (as assigned)

• Lead Pilot: Support satellite‑base administration, uphold policies, and take corrective action when required.
• Instructor/Check Pilot: Evaluate pilot performance, document results, and support training quality improvement.
• Mentor Pilot: Coach Second‑in‑Command pilots and complete Company Pilot Development Program requirements.
• Safety Representative: Monitor hazards, resolve safety issues, implement best practices, and provide safety education.
• Professional Growth: Use non‑transport time for education, participate in flight reviews, and contribute to peer development.

🧰 Minimum qualifications

• Total time: Minimum total time varies by assignment (see below).
• External – Single‑Engine aircraft: Commercial Pilot certificate with Airplane category/class and Instrument‑Airplane; eligible to complete ATP CTP within one year of hire; ≥ 2,500 hours in airplanes.
• External – Multi‑Engine aircraft: ATP (Multi‑Engine Land); ≥ 3,000 airplane hours including: 1,000 multi‑engine, 200 night (airplane), 300 instrument (≥ 100 actual), 500 multi‑engine PIC, and 500 turbine PIC.
• Internal candidates: Commercial Pilot certificate with Airplane category/class and Instrument‑Airplane; complete ATP CTP before aircraft training; ≥ 2,000 airplane hours; continuously employed as an Intermountain pilot ≥ 2 years; same night and instrument experience requirements as listed above.
• Licenses/certificates accepted: ATP (Unrestricted), ATP (Restricted), CPL.
• Communication: Effective verbal communication and hearing required.
• Physical ability: Lift at least 50 lbs; support, push, pull, carry aviation/clinical equipment; transfer patients; stand or sit for extended periods; climb aircraft stairs; operate aviation equipment and computers; read monitors/documents; move through confined aircraft spaces on hands/knees; bend or kneel to handle supplies and equipment.

🌟 Preferred experience

• Air medical/EMS flight experience.
• ≥ 100 hours PIC in King Air 90/200.
• ≥ 50 hours PIC in PC‑12.
• ≥ 200 hours turbojet time.
