✈️ Role overview
Join as a professional First Officer operating in a multi-crew environment across domestic and international routes. Aircraft are assigned by seniority, and no type rating is required — comprehensive training is provided. You will uphold the highest safety, compliance, and operational standards in alignment with CAA, ICAO, IATA, FAA, and EASA requirements.
🧭 Minimum flight time & licensing
- Total time: 1500 hours
- Multi-engine: 200 hours
- License required: Frozen ATPL with MEIR (SACAA)
- Medical: Class 1
- ICAO English: Level 4 minimum
- Passport: Valid, for international operations
A valid ATPL with multi‑engine instrument rating must be obtained within 4 years from the date of employment with SAA.
🧰 Education & academic requirements
SAQA‑accredited schooling or tertiary studies with the following:
- Minimum: Matric Certificate / Grade 12 results / N3 or relevant tertiary qualification (SAQA accredited)
- Compulsory subjects: Mathematics or Statistics 101, and English (D symbol on higher grade or C symbol on standard grade)
- Plus one of: Physical Science or Computer Science (D symbol on higher grade or C symbol on standard grade)
🌟 Knowledge, skills & attributes
- Proven application of safety standards and safe operating practices
- Detailed knowledge of national and international aviation regulations (CAA, ICAO, IATA, FAA, EASA)
- Strong understanding of international travel, customs and practices
- Knowledge of legal regulations for the piloting/aviation profession within South African and international environments
- Business communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to work under pressure; organisational resilience with a change management focus
