🧭 Role overview
As a FlySafair First Officer, you’ll support the Captain in every phase of flight to ensure safe, timely and fully compliant operations. You’ll monitor the route and aircraft systems, execute normal/abnormal/emergency procedures, communicate clearly with the crew, ATC, service providers and passengers, and complete accurate operational and legal reporting. You’ll uphold professional standards and crew morale, and assume command should the Captain become incapacitated.
🧰 What you’ll do
- Conduct safe, efficient Boeing commercial-jet operations in full compliance with SACAA, ICAO, company policies, the Operations Manual and SOPs.
- Complete all pre-, in-, and post-flight checks and documentation, maintaining impeccable checklist discipline.
- Continuously cross-check instruments (altitude/height, speed, heading) and monitor aircraft systems and flight path.
- Provide clear, timely advice to the Captain on any deviations, hazards, abnormal indications, warnings or performance concerns.
- Manage R/T communications and coordinate with internal departments, external service providers and passengers as required.
- Stay current on aircraft-type procedures, limitations and performance, and applicable laws and company manuals.
- Maintain an independent, continuous check of geographical position and terrain clearance.
- Deliver excellent customer service while supporting crew professionalism, conduct, appearance and morale.
- Complete all legal/admin reporting and submissions (including IQSMS) accurately and on time.
- Assume command if the Captain is incapacitated and perform any additional duties allocated by the Captain.
📋 Pre-, in- and post-flight focus
- Before flight: Review route, briefing sheets, forecasts, destination/alternate conditions and runway states; collaborate on fuel, alternates and any restrictions; complete all required checks and documents.
- In flight: Execute/monitor normal, abnormal and emergency checklists; immediately advise on any deviations or hazards; manage R/T as required.
- After flight: Complete post-flight procedures per the Operations Manual and FCOM; submit all relevant documentation and reports.
🎯 Minimum requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent.
- SACAA Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL); ATPL preferred.
- SACAA Class 1 Medical; no existing medical conditions and able to pass drug and alcohol testing.
- Minimum 1,500 total hours, including 500 hours multi-turbine, with essential multi-crew experience.
- Boeing type rating and experience on commercial jets >20 tons are advantageous (non-type-rated and type-rated candidates considered).
- Comprehensive knowledge of SACAA and ICAO regulations; essential knowledge of Doc 8186; familiarity with CPL/ATPL licensing content.
- South African citizen with valid RSA ID and Passport.
- Own reliable transport and a valid RSA Driver’s Licence.
- Willing and able to work irregular hours on a roster.
- Clean criminal record and able to sign applicable training bonds.
