DHC-8 Q‑Series Captain – Special Missions (ISR)

🧭 Your Mission

As a DHC‑8 Captain with FM, you will lead multi‑crew ISR missions across diverse environments—from coastal patrol to complex special assignments. You’ll command extended sorties (typically 8–9 hours) in our larger DHC‑8 platforms, integrating advanced mission systems while ensuring safety, precision, and operational excellence—often at short notice and in all weather, seasons, and terrain.

🧰 What You’ll Do

• Captain multi‑crew DHC‑8 Q‑Series aircraft on ISR and maritime patrol missions, including 8–9 hour sorties.
• Exercise sound command decision‑making in dynamic, time‑critical environments.
• Coordinate closely with mission system operators, technicians, and operations teams.
• Plan and execute flights to varied theatres, ensuring compliance with CARs, SOPs, and client tasking.
• Operate safely in all weather, over water and remote terrain, day and night.
• Support training and mentorship across the crew, fostering high performance and safety culture.
• Maintain readiness for short‑notice deployments and extended rotations, domestically and internationally.

🌟 Minimum Requirements

• Total Time: 4,000 hours
• PIC in Type (DHC‑8): 1,500 hours
• Time in Type (DHC‑8): 500 hours
• Type Rating: Current DHC‑8 Q‑Series type rating required
• Special Missions: 1,000 hours MPA or Special Missions experience
• License: TCCA ATPL
• Medical: Transport Canada Class 1
• Language: ICAO English Level 4+
• Security: Able to obtain required security clearances
• Travel & Rotations: Frequent domestic/international travel; able to participate in rotational deployments
• Mission Endurance: Comfortable working in an aircraft cabin environment on 8–9 hour missions
• Duty Flexibility: Available for early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays during On Duty periods

• Military flight experience
• Previous ISR/MPA or special mission systems exposure beyond the minimum
• Experience in northern/remote operations, over‑water, icing, and challenging weather
• Mentorship, training, or checking experience in multi‑crew operations

🧭 Life on Rotation

Expect extended deployments with the aircraft, both within Canada and overseas. Missions and schedules can arise at short notice. During On Duty periods, you’ll operate across early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays. Between rotations, you’ll have dedicated off‑duty periods to reset.
