✈️ Role overview
Berry Aviation, Inc. is hiring an experienced DHC-8 Captain to serve as a standby pilot in command for overseas (OCONUS) Part 135 missions. You’ll lead safe, efficient, and compliant operations in austere international environments, maintaining a 48-hour—or less—response posture and supporting more than 120 deployed days per year across worldwide locations.
🧭 What you’ll do
- Serve as standby PIC on DHC-8 aircraft for OCONUS Part 135 operations.
- Plan and release flights in accordance with FAR Part 135, ensuring all required documentation is onboard.
- Verify airworthiness, inspection status, and appropriately address discrepancies under the applicable MEL.
- Conduct comprehensive preflight risk assessments and complete thorough preflight inspections.
- Execute assigned flights per schedules, routes, and load manifests with disciplined CRM.
- Lead CRM briefings; ensure all crewmembers are fully briefed on flight particulars and any changes to plans, loads, aircraft condition, or operating environment.
- Coordinate routinely with on-site management regarding safety of flight, maintenance, life support, customer concerns, and personnel matters.
🧰 What you’ll bring
- FAA Multi-Engine ATP (Unrestricted) and current FAA First-Class Medical.
- Current U.S. passport (minimum six months validity at all times).
- Minimum 1,500 hours PIC total time and 500 hours PIC multi-engine.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance.
- High school diploma (or equivalent).
- 48-hour-or-less notification posture; able to begin travel within 48 hours of tasking.
- Availability for 120+ deployed days per year at worldwide OCONUS locations.
- Thorough knowledge of FAA regulations and Part 135 operations.
- Proven aeronautical decision-making, risk management, CRM, leadership, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with aircraft navigation systems and flight-planning software.
- Demonstrated ability to operate safely in austere, international environments.
🌟 Preferred qualifications
- 3,000+ hours total time and 1,200+ hours multi-engine turbine.
- Aerial delivery experience and NVG experience.
- Current active U.S. Secret clearance.
- At least one year as a FAR Part 135 pilot.
- At least one year supporting government contracts in OCONUS austere environments.
🧱 Physical & deployment requirements
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs; use aircraft stairs and ladders.
- Perform pilot duties on flights up to 10 hours; sit for extended periods at the controls.
- Work in confined aircraft spaces and outdoors in varying and extreme weather.
- Travel internationally and remain deployed for extended periods.
- Comply with customer-specific medical, security, and deployment requirements.
- Operate on irregular schedules including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended duty periods.
