Wipaire’s Advanced Flight Training & Leasing (AFT&L) is seeking a Fire Boss Chief Pilot to captain our AT-802/802A Fire Boss operations and training programs. Reporting to the General Manager, you’ll blend hands-on flying, high-impact instruction, and pilot-management leadership to uphold world-class training quality, operational readiness, and flight safety for amphibious aerial firefighting.

✈️ What you’ll lead

  • Overall responsibility for AFT&L Fire Boss flight operations and training programs on the AT-802/802A platform.
  • Ownership of pilot qualifications, staffing availability, course curricula, service-quality standards, and flight-safety programs.
  • Delivery of flight instruction, pilot services, and pilot-management oversight to internal teams and external customers.
  • Support for Fire Boss aircraft sales, including mission profiles, program information, and customer briefings.
  • Coordination of contract resources and nurturing long-term customer relationships.

🧭 Core flight and test responsibilities

  • Provide customer flight services, including ferrying aircraft from Wipaire or other locations to customer destinations.
  • Maintain operational currency across Wipaire-owned/maintained aircraft and external-client aircraft.
  • Conduct flight and test work in compliance with applicable FAA regulations and AFT&L syllabi, under VFR or IFR as appropriate.
  • File instrument flight plans when appropriate; coordinate with ATC, ground crews, and crew members.
  • Execute safe evaluations, including operations in adverse weather when required; respond to and report emergencies and malfunctions.
  • Verify passenger/cargo distribution and fuel against weight-and-balance specifications.
  • Record flight times, cycles, distances, and fuel consumption; complete all required test-flight documentation for aircraft released from maintenance or engineering test flights.

🧰 Training and curriculum development

  • Develop and maintain aircraft-specific client training: course syllabi, classroom presentations, computer-based training, reference handouts, and simulator programs.
  • Establish course curricula, service-quality benchmarks, and flight-safety programs tailored to Fire Boss operations.
  • Quote and schedule lessons and test flights; deliver ground training on aircraft systems, amphibious-aircraft operations, and aerial firefighting techniques.
  • Provide flight instruction in aircraft characteristics, amphibious and seaplane operations, water scooping and dropping, and aerial firefighting procedures.
  • Issue client endorsements, currency training, insurance check-outs, Flight Reviews, and IPCs for approved company pilots.

👥 Pilot staffing and oversight

  • Ensure adequate pilot coverage for internal departments and external customers.
  • Assign work in priority order: Fire Boss Chief Pilot or AFT&L pilot first; internal secondary resources next; then contract resources as needed.
  • Maintain client endorsements, currency training, and insurance check-outs for pilots approved to fly for the company.
  • Coordinate contract resources in partnership with Human Resources.

📋 Operating standards and compliance

  • Operate under all applicable FAA regulations and AFT&L training syllabi.
  • Ensure VFR/IFR compliance as appropriate; file instrument flight plans when required.
  • Maintain flying currency through Flight Reviews and IPCs.
  • Coordinate with ATC and ground crews; report emergencies and malfunctions per company and regulatory procedures.
  • Document all test flights and operational activities as required.
