🧭 Role at a glance

🧰 Minimum requirements
- Education: Grade 12 or Equivalent (Essential)
- Total Time: 5,000 hours (Essential)
- PIC Time: One of the following (Essential):
- 2,000 hours PIC on aircraft >50T; OR
- 1,000 hours PIC on B737 or similar type
- Recency: PIC on a large commercial airliner operating under Part 121 within the last 24 months (e.g., Boeing 737 or Airbus) (Essential)
- License: ATPL (ICAO)
- Medical: Class 1
- ICAO English: ELP Level 4 (minimum)
- License Holders: Open to ICAO license holders
- Type Rating: Not required (Training Provided)
🧠 Knowledge and competencies
- Regulatory: Good knowledge of South African CARS and CATS
- Procedures: Knowledge of Air Traffic Control airspace and procedures
- ICAO: Knowledge of Doc 8168
- SOPs: Excellent knowledge of the Safair OM and Boeing SOPs (Normal & Non-Normal)
- Leadership: Demonstrated command decision-making, CRM, and mentorship of flight deck and cabin crew
- Safety: Strong SMS awareness and disciplined adherence to company and regulatory procedures
🧭 What you’ll do
- Command Operations: Lead the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of B737NG flights under Part 121
- SOP Excellence: Apply Boeing Normal/Non-Normal procedures and the Operations Manual to the highest standard
- Flight Preparation: Oversee planning, performance, fuel, MEL/CDL, NOTAMs, and weather for each sector
- Crew Leadership: Drive effective CRM, briefings, decision-making, and a just culture onboard
- ATC Liaison: Communicate effectively with ATC and operational control to manage airspace, reroutes, and disruptions
- Currency & Checks: Maintain recency and proficiency through recurrent training and line checks

- Type Rating: Comprehensive B737NG training provided for suitable NTR candidates
- Bond: Willingness to enter an Upgrade Training Bond (Essential)
- Development: Ongoing recurrent training and checking to maintain operational excellence
