ATR 42 First Officer – Ottawa Base (Canadian North)

  • Operation: Scheduled passenger and cargo service to 25 northern communities across the Canadian Arctic
  • Base/Pairings: Ottawa-based; typically deployed to support Iqaluit operations on 6–14 day pairings
  • Fleet: ATR 42 (within a broader fleet including Boeing 737 Classic/NG and ATR 72)
  • Commuter Support: Up to $500 per direction (max $2,000/month) for pilots residing more than 150 km from base

✈️ What you’ll do

  • Serve as First Officer (second-in-command), reporting to the on-type Chief Pilot for the safe, efficient operation of the ATR 42.
  • Operate flights in accordance with Canadian North SOPs and company policies.
  • Champion safety: protect passengers, crew, and aircraft, and actively use the safety reporting program to identify and mitigate hazards.
  • Maintain regulatory proficiency and remain current by successfully completing the Transport Canada PPC and company qualification requirements.
  • Deliver outstanding service while flying scheduled passenger and cargo missions across the Canadian Arctic.

🧭 What you bring

  • Education: High School Diploma.
  • Flight time: Minimum 750 hours total time; or 250 hours total time if you are a graduate of a recognized aviation degree/diploma program (or similar). No prior airline experience required—recent graduates are welcome.
  • Licences & Ratings (Canada): Transport Canada CPL with either a valid IATRA or both SARON and SAMRA exams completed.
  • Valid Transport Canada Group 1 IR and Transport Canada Category 1 Medical Certificate.
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada; current valid passport or Canadian Permanent Resident Card, plus any visas/travel documents allowing unrestricted travel.
  • Ability to obtain and retain an Airport RAIC under Transport Canada regulations.
  • Asset: Ability to communicate in Inuktut.
