Lead, mentor, and fly. Contour Aviation is seeking an accomplished aviator and people-first leader to help steer our Part 135 flight operations from our headquarters in Smyrna, TN. As the Assistant Chief Pilot, you’ll provide day-to-day pilot leadership across all domiciles, serve as an active crewmember, and assume the Chief Pilot’s authority and duties when required—driving safety, standards, and continuous improvement throughout the operation.
🧭 About the role
The Assistant Chief Pilot is delegated the authority and duties of the Chief Pilot and assumes those responsibilities in the Chief Pilot’s absence. You will supervise company pilots, conduct line supervisory flying, and provide coaching and support across all divisions to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations consistent with 14 CFR 119.69, 119.71, and Part 135.
🧰 Key responsibilities
- Provide pilot leadership across all Contour domiciles while serving as an active crewmember.
- Supervise company pilots and ensure flights are conducted safely and in accordance with applicable CFRs, Operations Specifications, Company policies, Pilot Work Rules, and procedures.
- Conduct line supervisory flying to uphold professionalism and maintain pilot standards.
- Maintain the required number of qualified flight crew members to meet operational needs.
- Maintain and model the highest standards of pilot performance, image, appearance, attendance, and conduct.
- Administer corrective/disciplinary action in coordination with Flight Operations leadership and Human Resources.
- Participate in pilot recruiting and interviews; support staffing and onboarding initiatives.
- Assist with administrative requirements of the Chief Pilot’s Office and other tasks as assigned.
- Drive continuous improvement of flight operations processes and pilot standards to strengthen compliance and efficiency.
- Encourage safety reporting and process-improvement suggestions; represent the Company in government, industry, and community activities.
- Maintain current knowledge of the General Operations Manual (GOM), Operations Specifications, and all regulations applicable to Company operations.
🌟 What you’ll bring
- Meets the applicable requirements of 14 CFR Part 119, including 119.69 and 119.71, for Chief Pilot responsibilities in Part 135 operations.
- U.S. Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate (unrestricted) and First-Class FAA Medical.
- At least 23 years of age; authorized to work in the United States; valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Ability to travel within and outside the United States; ability to lift up to 70 lbs.
- Two years of experience with a regional or major airline.
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Type-rated, or capable of becoming type-rated, on a Contour-operated aircraft.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Contour’s GOM, Operations Specifications, and applicable Parts 119 and 135 (or ability to attain rapidly).
- Polished, professional interpersonal skills with a customer-oriented mindset; strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication delivered with tact and professionalism; well-developed people skills to work across diverse personalities.
- Proven ability to coordinate multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and thrive amid interruptions in a fast-paced environment; exceptional attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel) and basic familiarity with similar software tools.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and varying schedules.
- Commitment to working safely and professionally, adhering to OSHA, EPA, state, and federal regulations.
- Must understand, read, and write English.
- Successfully pass a 10-year work history review, criminal background and fingerprint checks, and DOT-required pre-employment drug screening; participate in FAA/Company-mandated random drug and alcohol testing.
- If currently employed at Contour, must not be on a step of discipline.
📍 Where you’ll lead and fly
Based at Contour Aviation headquarters in Smyrna, TN, you’ll support and visit multiple domiciles as operational needs dictate. Expect periodic travel and schedule variability aligned with active flight operations and supervisory flying.
