Air New Zealand is inviting expressions of interest from experienced external pilots to join our jet operations as a First Officer on the Airbus A320/A321 or as a Second Officer on the Boeing 787/777. If you’re passionate about safe, world-class operations and ready to progress your jet career, we’d love to hear from you.

🧭 The opportunity

Operate at the heart of Air New Zealand’s jet network. As an A320/A321 First Officer, you’ll support domestic and short-haul international services across the Tasman and Pacific. As a B787/B777 Second Officer, you’ll deliver long-haul excellence as part of a widebody crew, providing cruise relief and supporting global operations. Both paths offer industry-leading training, a strong safety culture, and clear career progression.

🧰 What you’ll bring

  • Minimum 1,500 hours total flight time
  • Minimum 100 hours multi-engine aeroplane
  • Minimum 100 hours ATO
  • Minimum 40 hours instrument flight time
  • Minimum 25 hours night flying
  • Current NZCAA CPL or ATPL licence
  • Current NZCAA Class 1 Medical Certificate
  • Valid MEIR
  • NZCAA BTK/BGT qualification
  • English Language Proficiency Level 6 or higher
  • University Entrance (or equivalent)
  • Valid passport and ability to travel internationally
  • New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, or Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • No prior employment with Air New Zealand, Mount Cook Airline, Air Nelson, or Eagle Airways within the last 8 years (for turboprop pilots)

🌟 Qualifying experience (meet one of)

  • 12+ months multi-crew, multi-turbine Part 121/125 turboprop command (MCTOW 7,765 kg+; IFR)
  • 12+ months Part 121/125 jet First Officer experience
  • Part 121/125 jet Captain experience
  • 12+ months RNZAF or other air force multi-crew, multi-turbine fixed-wing command experience

  • Provide copies of your NZCAA licence (CPL/ATPL), Class 1 Medical, and MEIR

  • Note your qualifying Part 121/125 or military experience (as applicable)
