Jazz Direct Pilot Pathway — Student to First Officer

🧭 About the pathway

Jazz Direct connects graduating pilots with real-world, regional airline operations across North America. Jazz operates a fleet of regional jets and turboprops under the Air Canada Express brand and identifies Jazz pilots as a preferred source of flight crew for Air Canada.

Students selected through Jazz Direct may transition to the right seat via one of two established routes, ensuring a clear, standards-driven bridge from training to airline operations.

🧰 Two routes to the right seat

• Integrated ATPL route: Direct progression from an integrated Airline Transport Pilot Licence program upon graduation and meeting all requirements.
• Commercial route (minimum 250 hours): Requires a CPL, multi-IFR qualification, and successful completion of the IATRA exam.

✅ Eligibility & requirements

• Valid Transport Canada Group 1 Instrument Rating and current instrument-recurrency.
• Valid Transport Canada Class 1 Medical.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC).
• Current passport with at least six months’ validity at time of hire.
• Citizenship/residency: Canadian citizen or unrestricted Canadian permanent resident. Permanent residents must be able to obtain and maintain required crew visa documentation for U.S. operations.
• Legal ability to enter the United States without restrictions.
• Meets Transport Canada English-language proficiency standard.
• Licensed by Transport Canada to act as a First Officer on a 705-category aircraft with written IATRA or a Frozen ATPL.
• Academic and exam standards: minimum 80% on written CPL, INRAT and IATRA examinations, including SARON/SAMRA; ranked at or above average in all aviation-program courses.
• No failures on Transport Canada flight tests or aviation-program check rides (partial pass permitted).
• Faculty recommendation (verbal or written) directly from your institution/program.
• Demonstrated high level of professionalism.
• Enrollment: student in good standing at an affiliated institution (see list below).
